7 Easy Ways to Refresh Your Bedroom

Update the Decor

A classic, yet no less effective way is to focus on the details. The brain tends to quickly adapt to the surrounding scenery, so you probably just don’t notice the beautiful details that fill the bedroom anymore. Therefore, it’s advisable to change the decor occasionally: seasonally or just depending on your mood.

This way, you can not only refresh the interior but also significantly change its perception. For example, by adding more bright details or, conversely, choosing monochrome accessories.

Replace Textiles

This point goes hand in hand with the previous one. Textiles are equally responsible for the atmosphere, mood, and sense of comfort. In terms of percentage, they occupy more space in the room than decor: this includes curtains, bed linen on the bed, and possibly a large rug. Therefore, the impact textiles can have on the space is comparable to cosmetic remodeling. This can be a thematic mood or significant changes in the overall color scheme.

And if you don’t want to rack your brain each time about which curtains or bed linen to choose, have several seasonal sets that you can update throughout the year.

Rearrange Furniture

Rearranging is a wonderful alternative to remodeling, as not only color and decor matter, but also how functionally the bedroom works.

You can:

  • Rearrange the bed — this will be a truly radical update, as it changes both your perspective and your feeling of the room. Maybe even the quality of your sleep. If previously the sleeping area was in the center of the wall, try moving it to a corner or try a bold option with the headboard near the window. It’s not for everyone, but many like it.
  • Remove or add a functional area. If you have a work corner in your bedroom, consider moving it to the living room or a heated balcony. Or, on the contrary, usually you work in another room, but it’s too noisy. Maybe there’s a cozy spot in the bedroom for a reading nook.
  • Simply swap furniture around. Move the desk to another wall, relocate the chair — any, even minimal changes in space matter. Not just visually — you’ll move around the room differently.

Add Plants

Of course, one small cactus won’t be enough to transform your bedroom, but several striking plants in beautiful pots can handle the job. If you’re not new to indoor gardening, you can create a whole home garden next to your sleeping area, gathering suitable plants from around the apartment and concentrating them in one spot. Such a green corner will beautify even the most basic interior, which previously seemed dull or just stale.

Another option is a couple of focal points. It could be an indoor palm, monstera, or Benjamin’s ficus in a floor pot. Or several smaller plants, but with beautiful flowering or unusual leaves — in this case, the greening will also serve as a full-fledged decor.

Change Storage

Periodically reorganizing storage is generally beneficial. At the same time, it’s an opportunity to declutter, to think about what items you no longer need, and what has been lying around waiting for its moment. Along with this, it’s a chance to add a little variety to the bedroom interior.

You don’t necessarily need to make large-scale changes: you can simply add a beautiful open rail for outfits for the upcoming days or a ladder-style shelf. Or, if you already have a clothes rack, replace it with closed storage: for instance, buy a small dresser or bedside tables with compartments under the lid.

Shift the Focus

A simple trick for those planning minimal updates (even decorative ones) is to simply shift the focal point in the interior. For example, in the bedroom, the eye often falls immediately on the headboard of the bed, especially if it is traditionally placed in the center. Create a new anchor for attention: curtains with an unusual pattern, a bright poster, or a large plant in a textured pot.

You can also try other techniques: for example, add asymmetry to the composition or place an item in the bedroom that is atypical for this room.

Open the Windows

Not literally—although that’s also very beneficial. Overall, natural light transforms a room, making it cozier and visually more spacious. In the bedroom, we’re used to enclosing ourselves with heavy curtains, but this isn’t the only option. Replace them with layered tulle, as Scandinavians do, hang Roman or roller blinds. If the morning sun bothers you, choose a blackout fabric model—it will solve all problems.

Also, don’t clutter the windowsill with stacks of books or tall plants. The more clean and open the window opening, the better. Under sufficient natural light, even old wallpaper or paint will look refreshed, and it will eliminate dark corners and unsightly shadows.
