7 Beautiful Kitchen Backsplash Storage Examples

1 Long Rail with Trinkets

The simplest way to make a backsplash functional is to install a rail on it. If you cook a lot and constantly need this and that, choose a long bar, like in this example. It will definitely have enough space for all the necessary accessories – and then some. You can hang a couple of favorite mugs or, for example, a basket with fragrant herbs on the free hooks.

2 Knives on a Magnetic Strip

There’s not always space for a knife block on the countertop. If that’s your case, move them up, like they did in this kitchen. A convenient and compact option is a magnetic strip that you can fix to any material of the backsplash. Then, hang the knives on it.

3 Paper Towel Rod

Those who use paper towels in the kitchen often place them near the sink or in a corner. But firstly, this takes up space on the work surface. And secondly, reaching for the roll and unrolling the paper vertically is not so convenient. Instead, you can hang it above the sink: for example, choosing a rod that matches the neighboring rails in tone.

4 Detergent Above the Sink

If you want to decorate the area around the sink aesthetically, conveniently, and without visual noise, transfer the detergent into a dispenser, and send the bottle to the backsplash, like the owner of this kitchen did. This way, nothing will get in your way on the countertop, and if there’s very little space, you can even hang a sponge on the wall.

5 Oven Mitts on Hooks

It’s convenient to store kitchen textiles on hooks, and you can hang them not only at the end of the cabinet or on a free wall, but also directly on the backsplash – especially if it’s not tiled, but, for example, just painted. In this kitchen, they did just that: allocated a couple of inconspicuous hooks for the oven mitts, and chose the accessories to match the rest of the black and white decor.

6 Mini-Rail for Mugs

Unlike plates and saucers, mugs can be hung on hooks right by the handles, so it’s convenient to store them vertically – no need to make a shelf or put up a stand. For a couple or three cups that you use most often, you can allocate a small rail, where only they will hang. Want your cooking area to look as concise as possible? Choose crockery to match the tone of the backsplash and cabinet, as the owner of this kitchen did.

7 Appliances on Brackets

You can place not only trinkets but also full-fledged appliances on the backsplash. For instance, in this project, besides the standard long rail, they installed brackets for a microwave oven under the upper tier. As a result, it doesn’t take up space neither on the countertop nor in any of the cabinets.
