5 Unique Kitchen Designs Breaking Stereotypes

1 Concrete Block Kitchen Set, Finished with Microcement

You don’t have to order a kitchen from carpenters or buy ready-made sets from stores. Designer Ekaterina Karavaeva created a kitchen from concrete blocks in her apartment! The set comprises open sections, with essential appliances built-in! This includes a dishwasher and an oven. The refrigerator fits into a designated niche. The blocks are finished with microcement—a practical, seamless material resistant to moisture and dirt. The same material covers the backsplash over the work surface. Organized storage is achieved with woven baskets. Note this unique approach to kitchen design.

2 Kitchen with Island in a Small Studio

Kitchen island only for large apartments? Yaroslav Kucherov’s project proves otherwise. The studio’s total area is just 205 square feet (19 sq. m), with the room occupying 151 square feet (14 sq. m). The kitchen is placed in a designated area defined by utilities and divided into two zones. The first is the working area with lower bases, cooking panel, and sink. The second is a peninsula serving as a dining group, offering storage, and acts as a zoning element between the kitchen and the rest and work areas. They opted for open shelves instead of upper cabinets to avoid cluttering the space, making the kitchen look less utilitarian.

3 Mini-Kitchen in a Bath House

We built the bath house for personal use and as an investment, to rent out. A full-sized kitchen wasn’t necessary, so we chose this decorative option. It has wooden cabinets with a sink installed and a microwave to quickly heat up food. Behind the curtains, there’s a small refrigerator and space for a washing and dishwasher. Why not consider such a kitchen, for instance, at a summer cottage?

4 Kitchen with a Mirrored Island

Who said mirrors aren’t for kitchens? In a new building in Saint Petersburg, they’ve created the atmosphere of a historic apartment. The kitchen is combined with the living and dining areas, featuring a straight kitchen set with an island. The island is finished with tinted mirrors, which literally dissolve it in the space. Yes, you’ll have to clean the mirrors, but regular facades made of MDF, wood, or particleboard also require periodic cleaning.

5 Kitchen Like in a Country House

…Only in a city apartment on the 17th floor of a residential complex in Krasnoyarsk. The kitchen is one of the key areas, the “heart of the home,” or in this case, the apartment. The hostess loves cooking and bakes to order, so she needed a functional space. But aesthetics play a significant role here. The facades with panels, a panel made of aged wooden boards that hides the refrigerator from the living room side, many useful little things, thematic decor, a “farmhouse” sink, and a deliberately rough table that can be tucked away when necessary—all these elements recreate the ambiance of a country house.
