Pack Fruits into Transformable Containers
Peel, wash, and pack your fruits and berries into containers — it’s much more convenient for later cooking or snacking, especially when you’re short on time. You can organize such storage in containers that stack on top of each other. The convenience here lies in being able to create a handy arrangement from a set of bowls that doesn’t take up much space while still being capacious. Moreover, small containers won’t be scattered randomly and get in the way in the fridge. This method is also great for storing various amounts of products: from large to very small.
Install a Lazy Susan
Jars with sauces and preserves usually get stored in the fridge door or pushed to the back, which isn’t always convenient. Items on the back shelves can be forgotten because they aren’t always visible, and containers from the sides may fall and break if the door is hard to open. A great alternative is a Lazy Susan. Place it on one of the shelves inside the fridge and put your sauces and various marinades on it. Thanks to its rotating surface, it will be easy to pick and take out what you need without having to remove the whole structure.
Choose Containers Made of Eco-friendly Materials
Store your food in containers made of natural materials. These can be not only glass containers but also woven baskets, organizers with wooden or cork lids, and entirely wooden bowls. Such storage is not only aesthetically pleasing: natural materials “breathe” and better preserve food while preventing odors or mold. A fridge like this also looks very stylish and beautiful on the outside.
Cut Fruits and Vegetables into Pieces
Keep the fruits and vegetables you use most often ready to eat: peeled and cut. First, it will save you time during cooking, and second, it will help establish healthy habits: when choosing between a chocolate bar and a mango that needs to be washed, peeled, and cut before eating, you’ll likely opt for the simpler option and choose the chocolate. Meanwhile, already cut and washed fruits are much easier to grab and eat. Moreover, prepared products take up less space, and you can store them in containers or ziplock bags.
Place Bins with Handles
A convenient type of storage container is plastic baskets with handles. You can place them on high shelves even close to each other: pulling these containers out of the fridge will be convenient. And you don’t even have to pull them out completely, just quickly grab what you need and push it back. It may seem like a small thing, but when a container holds a lot, a sturdy handle to pull it off the shelf is simply necessary.
Organize Products in Bags
Storing in bags isn’t a new idea, but it is effective. This way, you can conveniently organize your supplies and significantly save shelf space. Put washed fruits and vegetables, ground meat, purees, and even soups in reusable silicone bags. Then, stand the containers vertically in special stands or simply in a drawer. This results in convenient and compact storage. If the bags are large, you can just place them on the shelf: usually, such containers have a fairly wide bottom and hold their shape well.
Fill Every Inch of Shelf Space
This simple rule can double (or even triple) the capacity of your fridge. Make it a habit to fully utilize the shelves and rationally use the space between them. For this purpose, buy containers that easily stack on top of each other, and also use hanging organizers and baskets for small packages. But don’t cram the fridge to its limit: air must circulate freely, otherwise, the conditions for storing food will be compromised.
