Update the Facades
The kitchen set is a major part of any standard kitchen. Its appearance largely determines the overall impression of the interior. Therefore, you can achieve the maximum effect from transforming your kitchen by updating the facades. The most radical option is to completely replace them. A more budget-friendly and quicker option is to simply repaint them. And if you don’t want to bother with paint, you can cover the kitchen cabinets with self-adhesive film. Choose the color based on your new interior wishes: white will make the space more concise and visually larger, while dark or bright shades will make it more striking.
Replace the Hardware
To freshen up the kitchen’s appearance a bit, you can replace not the entire facades but just details like the hardware. Often, they can bring the mood that was missing in the interior or become the necessary final touch. Kitchen furniture sometimes looks quite simple, but with painted ceramic or vintage handles, you can make the set more decorative. Just think in advance about whether it will be easy to clean the hardware.
Refresh the Backsplash
The backsplash is also a pretty prominent detail in the kitchen. You can update old tiles with paint or stencils, as shown in the photo below. Even a beginner can handle this task. You can paint yellowed or any light-colored tiles white, and cover brighter colors with other saturated shades.
Replace Light Fixtures
If you have wall sconces or ceiling lights in the kitchen that can be replaced with others, do so. Even a small detail like a lampshade can affect the overall picture. Moreover, play with the shade of light: a warmer one will create a cozy feeling, while a neutral one will mimic daylight as closely as possible. If you want to add or change lighting scenarios without remodeling, you can do so with battery-operated lights or LED strips. For example, you can add lighting under kitchen cabinets.
Hang Shelves
Sometimes just a couple of shelves can greatly transform a kitchen’s interior. For instance, they can occupy space above the dining table, complement the set, or utilize any empty wall space. Open shelves are perfect for displaying flowers in a vase, beautiful dishes, framed photos, and jars of spices. Just remember to keep them tidy.
Add or Replace Decor
A simple and quick way to update any interior, including the kitchen, is with new decor. This could be flowers, a thematic poster on the countertop or on the wall in the dining area, napkins, a cozy organizer. Even new beautiful cups can serve as decoration. The main thing is to choose kitchen decorations that can withstand moisture, steam, and temperature changes.
Place Indoor Plants
Just a couple of planters with plants are enough to transform the kitchen, freshen it up, and at the same time make it cozier. Place small violets or a blooming chrysanthemum on the countertop or in the dining area, occupy an empty corner or space next to the sofa with a striking monstera or indoor palm — and you will see how the mood in your old kitchen changes.
Update Textiles
Textiles play an important role in the kitchen’s interior. They help to emphasize existing accents and create new ones. Curtains make the space cozier, while a tablecloth or stylish napkins add a bit of grandeur to an ordinary tea time. If you’re tired of the current interior, simply replace the textiles — entirely or partially.
Rearrange Furniture
It’s clear that moving the cabinets around is not feasible, but there is other furniture that can easily be rearranged. For example, change the table’s location, place it against the wall if space allows, or move it closer to the window. Some chairs can be replaced with a bench or small sofa. Or even remove the dining area from the kitchen, setting it up in the living room, and use that space for a cupboard or shelving for additional storage.
