Don’t Fear Color
Color is one of the most accessible and interesting tools in interior design. Color choices create the mood and add individuality to the entire space. The trend of biophilia, which means design inspired by natural motifs, remains relevant today and will continue to be for a long time.
Combining olive shades with natural browns, using textured surfaces, textured glass, and upholstery — all these will add more individuality to your apartment. But I would recommend sticking to 3-4 colors that combine well with each other and not overdoing the brightness. Speaking of the biophilic trend, plants tell the most about the apartment’s owner. It’s impossible to create two identical plant compositions unless that is specifically the goal. Use different shades of green to complement furniture and choose pots and planters in matching colors. Mainly, maintain a balance between decorative-leafy and flowering plants — and you’ll be amazed at how the space transforms.
Mirrors — An Essential Element of Decor
A mirror is not just a household necessity but also an additional decor element that can make a room appear larger and brighter. For instance, small models can complement wall compositions in the kitchen or living room. They can continue the play of light, so strategically placed mirrors in the house can achieve surprising effects.
If the apartment’s size does not allow for a large mirror, a narrow tall one will help. Think of the trendy photos from social networks: a slim mirror in the corner of the room, a large window, plants above the mirror. On sunny days, the sun’s rays will beautifully reflect, so you will have a good mood even in winter. Nowadays, manufacturers offer models in various shapes and sizes, so depending on your apartment’s design style, you can play with mirrors: create wall compositions, add them to existing interiors, or distribute them throughout the apartment.
Play with Light
Some color schemes in a space require the presence of different types of light: warm, cold, or a mix of different shades of warm and cold. Light is a crucial component of any room, which many often overlook. If you arrange the right light play in the apartment, you can see the familiar interior from an interesting angle. You don’t necessarily have to fill all the ceiling space with spotlights: this is the simplest method that will make your apartment look like an office. Firstly, in modern apartments, it’s common to place several light sources in living rooms or kitchens. Some of them can have diffusing light, while others can be spotlights. For example, you can hang them over the dining table. In the living room, you can also buy lamps for the floor and cabinets and turn them on depending on the mood. I like combining them with plants: it creates the atmosphere of a cozy garden, where you can spend a pleasant evening reading a book.
Set the Accents
Swedish minimalism has so captivated our minds that we often fear to introduce something bright into the interior, even though we understand that it will say more about us than other items. I like that in recent years, our collections have started to include bright accent pieces. Previously, they were often bought from craftsmen or flea markets, but now interesting items can also be found in mass-market stores. For example, if your apartment has many plants, a nightstand with natural motifs will fit perfectly into your interior. And why not buy a dresser with a reproduction of your favorite artist? I’m very glad that such items are available in our stores. This means that interior items are becoming less impersonal and more tailored to specific individuals.
Embrace Carpets
If you’ve seen the movie “The Big Lebowski,” you probably remember the phrase: “The rug really tied the room together.” And I completely agree with it. A well-chosen rug can not only transform the interior but also give it individuality.
The main rule when choosing a rug, as with any other decor, is to remember that you should end up with a harmonious composition. If geometry dominates your interior, you should not choose a rug with a geometric pattern, better to prefer a calm, solid color.
The shape of the rug, as well as its size and color, significantly influences the perception of the room’s interior. An oval or round rug is perfect for decorative purposes, for example, near the sofa area.
If you want to zone a space, use one or more square rugs. For example, in a living-bedroom, place a small-sized carpet near the dressing table and a larger one in the sofa area.
Try to choose a rug that matches the shape of the furniture in the room. If the coffee table, sofa, and chairs predominantly have sharp angles and straight lines, a square or rectangular rug will certainly highlight them. For round and smooth shapes, use oval or round models.
